Sukhothai significa "Dawn of Happiness" (Amanecer de Felicidad)... y está a unos 450kms. al norte de la actual capital thailandesa, Bangkok - Khrungthep กรุงเทพ en thailandés!

Aunque la primera intención era ir en avión (menos de 1 hora), después del caos de la semana pasada en el aeropuerto no teníamos claro que los vuelos pudieran funcionar al 100%... así que, aprovechando que Jordi tiene coche de empresa... con chófer incluido!!! nos hicimos llevar cómodamente, disfrutando del paisaje y de las 5 horas de viaje...........

s 14:00pm... así que para aprovechar las horas de sol que quedaban, nos recomendaron visitar una antigua ciudad a 52kms. más al norte: Si Satchanalai... hermana de Sukhothai (misma época!).Satchanalai es también un Parque Histórico - parecido al de Sukhothai - considerado Patrimonio de la Humanidad... pero menos visitado, con restos de templos y palacios de los siglos XIII y XV, en plena naturaleza, en medio de bosques, para lo que necesitas un transporte para ir de uno a otro emplazamiento........
Perdonaréis que incluya muchas fotos, más que explicaciones... pero una imagen vale más que mil palabras y además me ha costado mucho escoger entre tooooodas las fotos que hicimos!!... incluyendo a unos monjes fotografiándose con un móvil!!! (muy modernos ellos...) pero caminando descalzos por todo el parque lleno de guijarros y tierra!!!
As we had a long weekend due to the Festivity of the King's Birthday, we spent it visiting this old capital... and though we wanted to fly there, due to the mess at the airport during last week, we did not want to risk they might not be working properly... so we let the driver (provided by Jordi's company!) to drive us there....... after 5 hours through very interesting landscape we arrived at Sukhothai by 2pm, so we were recommended the following visit to take advantage of the remaining sunshine h

i, Historical Park similar in style to the Old Sukhothai, but much less visited... it is just 52kms North from Sukhothai and full of ruins which span from the 13th to the 15th Centuries and are set amongst scenic hills. There are 140 documented sets of ruins including old walls, pagodas, stupas, gateways, moats, kilns and much more...... for which it is good to have a car to go from one to the other!
Sorry that I include so many photos, but they speak better than words... and also, it's been difficult to decide which ones to show from all the ones taken!! ... oh! note the ones with the monks taking pictures of themselves in the city with a cellular phone... very modern!! but walking barefoot on pebbles and earth.......

e esta visita fuimos a nuestro hospedaje en el "nuevo Sukhothai", ciudad sin ningún tipo de interés - típica moderna Thai - y a tan sólo 12 kms. de la antigua Sukhothai.

Dormir con la ventana abierta y tapándose con una colcha, despertándose con los cientos de pájaros y desayunando pan recién hecho..... uuhhmmm! Al día siguiente un tuk-tuk muy especial - realmente distinto a los que hay en Bangkok, Chiang Mai, etc. (recordáis la entrada del 29 de agosto??) - nos llevó hasta la Antigua Ciudad de Sukhothai..........
En el mapa veis que la parte principal está amurallada... bueno, tiene lo que queda de las murallas!! pero hay más montañas arriba.......On the following day, a special tuk-tuk - quite different from those in other cities (do yo remember the entry dated 29th August??) - took us to the Old City of Sukhothai!! In the map you can see that the main city was inside walls - nowadays there's just part of them! - but there is much more outside, up the hills......

La ciudad es amplia pero sobre todo los alrededores, donde la carretera era prácticam
ente para nosotros!!! ... zona totalmente rural, con campos de arroz y 
sólo alguna moto de vez en cuando, con una temperatura perfecta - sin frio y sin sudar! - y plagada de restos de templos, la mayoría en lo alto de las montañas, a los que llegábas "escalando" las colinas, aunque la carretera por donde circulábamos era totalmente llana!!
Excursión recomendable 100% por lo tranquila y especial... al menos para nosotros..............

Once there we took bycicles... and though after four hours all the body is now aching! it was really worth!!
The liberty of fresh air, stopping where we wanted and riding in the direction we chose... was great to charge batteries!!There, ruins of the royal palaces, Buddhist temples, the city gates, walls moats, dams, ditches, ponds, canals... have been partially restored to allow a nice visit in a huge area all together! and as mentioned, not only inside the walls but also through a road going among rice fields, with no traffic and very flat, though the temples were up the hills and you had to "climb" to reach them!!
All together a really nice excursion 100% recommendable... at least for us.............

n uno de los taxis comunitarios que unen las dos ciudades cada 10 minutos, por20Bahts/persona (aprox.0,50€)!!!
Al día siguiente vuelta a Bangkok en el coche... otras 5 horas! pero parando a ver un Parque Natural lleno de cascadas....... del cual os hablo mañana, ok??
... and going back to the new Sukhothai in one of the community taxis which go from one city to the other each 10 minutes, for 20Baths/person (approx.0,50€)!!!
On the following day back to Bangkok in the car... again 5 hours! but stopping in a National Park full of waterfalls...... though I'll explain about it tomorrow, ok??
